This 1932 composition by Haven Gillespie and John Frederick Coots was ignored for two years, until it was recorded in 1934 by Eddie Cantor. It was a hit, and has since become an extremely popular Christmas carol.
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
J. Fred Coots, Henry Gillespie (c) 1934
Oh! You better watch out,
You better not cry,
You better not pout,
I'm telling you why:
Santa Claus is coming to town!
He's making a list,
Checking it twice,
Gonna find out who's naughty or nice.
Santa Claus is coming to town!
He sees you when you're sleeping,
He knows when you're awake.
He knows if you've been bad or good,
So be good for goodness sake!
Oh! You better watch out,
You better not cry,
You better not pout,
I'm telling you why:
Santa Claus is coming to town!
